It began with a single message from Düsseldorf, at a time when the world was cautiously emerging from the long pause of the pandemic. A family-owned dessert boutique, renowned for its rainbow-hued macarons, creamy cheesecakes, and exquisitely crafted pastries, had a vision. They sought a partner—hundreds of kilometers away in Turkey—to bring that vision to life.
What followed was an inspiring journey of creativity, trust, and boundary-defying design. We never met face to face. We never set foot on the site before construction. Yet, together, we created something tangible, enduring, and entirely true to their dream. Site surveys were conducted via FaceTime, all meetings took place online, and design decisions were made through a screen. Despite these limitations, creativity flowed without restraint. Our clients entrusted us with full freedom, encouraging bold ideas and innovative thinking for what a small patisserie could become. We embraced this challenge with enthusiasm, ensuring each decision served both aesthetics and function.
The space, though modest at just 80 m², carried a considerable ambition. From oversized dessert display counters to custom shelving and production units, every element was designed exclusively for this project. One of the most memorable pieces was a single-piece banquet table—so substantial it left the German installation crew momentarily speechless. Every material, color, and functional detail was approached with precision, and each object became a story in itself, reflecting our commitment to bespoke craftsmanship.
All products were meticulously crafted in our Ankara workshops, and when it came time for delivery, an entire truck was required to transport them. Installation was completed in just two intense weeks by the NEOWE team. Despite the logistical challenges of pandemic-era travel and the tight schedule, the patisserie opened as promised—just in time for the Christmas season.
Sugarbar marked our first full-scope design-and-build project in Europe and offered lessons that no classroom or conference could match. It demonstrated the extraordinary results that trust, creativity, and meticulous planning can achieve. It proved that exceptional design can transcend distance, and that Turkish craftsmanship and German precision can meet in perfect harmony. Above all, Sugarbar reaffirmed our belief that design knows no borders. To everyone who contributed to bringing this vision to life, we extend our deepest gratitude. Sugarbar will remain one of our most treasured achievements.
